Acacia paradoxa or Hedge Wattle, is great for providing habitat for small birds, due to its prickly nature.  They can hide in amongst the prickly branches and keep them safe from predators (height of 2-4m and a width of 3m). It has bright yellow flowers in Spring. Acacia paradoxa is drought hardy, suitable as a hedging species and can be used for areas of low maintenance, it is also resistant to salt spray.
